Historique :	Saint Simon, comte de Crépy comte de Valois et du Vexin, était un religieux de Saint Claude. II se retira dans les forêts du Jura et créa les fondements du prieuré de Mouthe en 1077. Le village est mentionné pour la première fois dans une charte de 1144. La seigneurie de Mouthe appartenait au prieur ; elle était de mainmorte. L'église paroissiale a été construite par l’architecte, Jean-Pierre Galezot. L'auteur, Paul-Charles Nicod reçoit en 1848, la commande pour l'exécution d'un tableau représen- tant saint Simon, comte de Crépy.
